With so many streaming services available, it can be hard to decide which one to subscribe to. However, one streaming service that stands out from the rest is HBO’s streaming service. Home to some of the most acclaimed shows in history, HBO’s streaming service has something for everyone. Usually, that would sell someone, but nowadays it’s not just HBO that ticks those boxes. I could replace the first couple sentences with any streaming service and it would fit. So, is HBO Max worth it in 2023? How do they compare with other Streaming Services?

Lets take a look at top rated shows on HBO Max, no doubt you will have heard of them. I’ve excluded The Last of Us from this list – We’re confident that it will reach enough acclaim to be apart of this list soon enough, but not quite yet.
The Sopranos:
One of the most acclaimed shows of all time, The Sopranos is an American crime drama series that follows the life of an Italian-American mobster, Tony Soprano, and his family. The show won 21 Primetime Emmy Awards and 5 Golden Globe Awards during its six-season run.
Game of Thrones:
One of the most popular TV shows of all time, Game of Thrones is an epic fantasy drama series based on George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels. The show won a record-breaking 59 Primetime Emmy Awards during its eight-season run, making it one of the most decorated TV series ever.
The Wire:
The Wire is an American crime drama series that follows a multi-generational group of police and drug dealers in Baltimore, Maryland. The show won two Primetime Emmy Awards and four Peabody Awards during its five-season run.
Succession:
Succession is a black comedy drama series that follows the Roy family and their succession battle. The show won 8 Primetime Emmy Awards and 3 Golden Globe Awards during its first three seasons.
Veep:
An American political satire series, Veep stars Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Selina Meyer, the former Vice President and President of the United States. The show won 17 Primetime Emmy Awards during its seven-season run, making it the most Emmy-awarded comedy series ever.

We’re going to exclude the pricing from this article, this is purely for the content and what’s available. There’s stand outs in each category however, it’s difficult to point out one specific winner, each are quite good in their own field.
Amazon Prime has a library of 16,500 movies which may seem impressive or even excessive but a vast majority of that content will be user uploaded. Amazon allows almost anyone to upload their movies onto their service. We’re not talking bad on independent creators but it’s not going to stand up against the blockbusters on other services.
If you’re look for Original content, Netflix does have an impressive lead, however it doesn’t mean its of the best quality of highly rated. I’d argue that Disney+ will have the best Original content, with several new Tv Shows doing amazing with viewers and critics alike, all within it’s relatively short lifespan. Of course that’s not even considering the plethora of movies they already have in their collection before creating their streaming service.
Is HBO Max Worth It in 2023? Conclusion
HBO doesn’t really stand out in the charts but you can see how the statistics may be deceiving. If we’re to compare the volume of hit shows they have, in comparison to shows produced, they are actually in second place, behind Disney+. HBO Max as a service, stands up against the other competitors, it’s gaining popularity and for good reason, it’s got a lot going for it and a lot in development. It’s earned it’s spot in the Top streaming services list and I’d have to recommend it to someone looking for a new streaming service.
This is all personal taste however, you’ll have to do your own research into the specific titles each service has. You may find you prefer what Hulu has to offer over HBO, it’s all personal preference but in terms of how does it compare. It stands tall with the other streaming giants.
